Shrimp Farm
My EWC friend I-ing, who I hadn't seen since she left Hawaii in 2005, works in Jogja and just returned to the city from a business trip my last day in town. She and her friend were kind enough to drive me out to the countryside where I-ing used to work many years earlier to eat at a nice (and evidently quite famous in the region) restaurant in the middle of a shrimp farm. We had a fantastic meal, fantastic conversation, and a fantastic sunset to finish off our little trip. But I-ing was far from done with her generous show of hospitality. Next they took me to the north palace grounds where locals like to play a game where you blindfold someone and see if they can walk from one end of the grassy field through the 10m wide gap between two trees in the middle of the field. It's a lot harder than it sounds. And I didn't take any pictures (it was WAY too dark there, which made it even more fun) to help explain how it works, so you'll just have to go try it for yourself. After I successfully made it through the trees on my second try, we went for ice cream at the best ice cream shop in town to finish off a wonderful evening. Nope, didn't take any pictures of my yummy ice cream either.
