Borobudur

As the top visited tourist attraction in Indonesia, this Buddhist monument seems to be faring pretty darn well over 600 years after Islam started trickling into Java. Despite the torrential rains that soaked us on the way in, the fact that we arrived less than two hours before closing, and the fact that I had to pay twelve times the entrance fee locals do (our Chinese friend Beryl got in at the local price, as there are a number of ethnic Chinese in Indonesia and they didn't bother asking for ID from her... for some reason they didn't believe I was a local though) didn't stop us from doing the full Buddhist pilgrimage path circling around each level of the monument to the three top levels. Unfortunately it didn't stop the hundreds of other tourists either, many of them Japanese and local school children. I took a few pictures with the latter... I guess perhaps the superstar status is compensation for the overpriced foreigner entrance fee.
