Around Town

These are mainly pictures I took while visiting various parts of the city with my friend Irwansyah. The first group of pictures were taken in the slums right behind the University of Indonesia where Irwansyah is a professor, and the smiles on the faces of the children there made for some of my favorite pictures of the whole trip. I also attended a weekend class that Irwansyah teaches at a nearby community college, where he showed some of my short films to the class. We also visited some celebration that was taking place between Chinatown and old Jakarta harbor, but I don't think we ever figured out exactly what they were celebrating. One of the most photogenic places we visited was the old harbor itself (after we got tired of celebrating at the celebration that we didn't know anything about), but I put that in the 'Harbor Life' album.
