Chinese New Year 2010
This was the second time I went to Tianjin to spend Chinese New Year with my friend Sun Ran and her family, although this time around I stayed for less than 24 hours because I had a lot of stuff to take care of back in Beijing. My camera actually only came out for about 30 minutes right around midnight to snap pics of Sun Ran's uncle nearly blow off his arm lighting a pack of firecrackers bigger than a car battery and then a few family pics once safely back inside (arms intact). Oh yeah, the other white guy was one of Sun Ran's tattoo customers from France (Sun Ran spends most of her time in France working as a tattoo artist) who has been getting a huge tattoo put on his back for over two years now, and his parents (he's only 17... yeah, I know... he's a giant) decided to send him to China to have another installment of the tattoo done and see a bit of China at the same time. Only thing was it was his first time to ever leave France and he spoke hardly a word of English. We had some very interesting conversations, especially at 3am when we were stuck at the karaoke parlor listening to Sun Ran's old high school buddies wail to Chinese pop songs. We mainly just made fun of the ridiculous karaoke videos. Art at it's best.
